Artists

As Lodi Wine Country rises in reputation, its art scene has enjoyed a renaissance as well.  Lodi’s burgeoning cultural arena has a big city feel with small town friendliness.

This year’s featured artists will present their works during the reception and barrel tasting. The beginning collector and the seasoned connoisseur will find something they just “have to take home.”

Note: Artists participate by ‘invitation only.’

Our thanks to Deanie Bridewell, City of Lodi, Division of Arts & Culture and Jan Marlese, Delta College L.H. Horton Jr. Gallery in Stockton for bringing this talented group of artists together.

Mardie Dalzell Driftmier

Much of my inspiration comes from the world around me… walks at sunrise… hikes in the hinder lands… drives across country… even words spoken to me. Back in the studio, I create abstracted landscapes dipping into these remembered experiences and observations. Mardie Driftmier recently relocated to the San Joaquin Valley from Colorado. Her donated pastel captures her heartfelt awe of the agricultural opulence of the Lodi area nestled between the San Joaquin Delta and the Sierra Nevada foothills. Mardie’s art education...

As a realistic artist I have always sought to capture the warmth and vibrancy of life. Animals, people, and floral subjects have always been the subjects of my best works. The differences between light and shadow are my favorite expressions to explore. Most importantly I love colors and enjoy how they interact with each other as they meet on my paper or canvas. I have been a professional artist and teacher for over 25 years. I received an AA and BA degree in Art and a Masters in Education. I have works in many private collections throughout...

Studio Samba

Studio Samba is a collaborative art workshop that provides a studio opportunity for artists who feel they augment each other. Samuel Bassett and Pepe Pool have worked in synchronization for four years on numerous modular sculptural projects. We love the process of fitting shapes together, exploring spatial relationships, working toward a gratifying sculptural result. Materials are a subsidiary interest – usually concrete in its many variations, but also steel and lacquered wood and any found object that comes to hand. A recurring theme in...

My formal education in fine arts began when I returned from service in the US Army and enrolled in classes at San Joaquin Delta College. My course of studies exposed me to the world of art shows and museums where I learned to see photography as art form. Inspired by the images and printing styles of the F64 club photographers, I started shooting large format and combining images in the darkroom. This method enabled me to express myself by capturing images and combining them to reveal the image in my imagination, like painting with light. Today...

My formal training was under Richard Lack at the Atelier Lack School of Fine Art in Minneapolis, Minnesota from 1977-1981. The Atelier provided a foundation in traditional drawing and painting. This system comes directly from a long tradition of a master artist training a small group of students in what are called “Ateliers” or studios. The Atelier Lack is traced back to the Boston School of Painting at the turn of the 20th century with William Paxton and R.H. Ives Gammell. From there the lineage goes back to the Paris ateliers of Gerome...
